The Beatles are often panned for lackluster live performances in the 1960s that have surfaced on bootleg. Such critics overlook the fact that due to poor sound systems, screaming fans, and unsuitable venues, most of the British Invasion groups of the time were unable to fare any better. That includes their archrivals, the Rolling Stones, exhibit A being this show from their final American tour with Brian Jones. The performance is well below the level of their recordings (although Mick Jagger does a reasonable job), and the sound, apparently taken from a radio broadcast, is only fair, perched at the edge of comfortable listening. If you're just a fan who wants to get an idea of what they sounded like during their prime, though, it's not a bad souvenir, as the group runs through most of its big 1965-1966 hits with reckless energy, if little finesse. ~ Richie Unterberger
