A convergence of two of Virginia's most decibel-crushing bands, this split-LP from doom/sludge metal troupe Windhand and sleazy punk-metal unit Satan's Satyrs delivers enough wattage to power the East Coast through a category five hurricane. The former group's penchant for pairing Sabbathy riffage with spectral melodies is put to the test on the epic, just-under-14-minute "single" "Three Sisters," which builds like a slow-moving weather system before dumping a metric ton of dirty snow. Satan's Satyrs, on the other hand, have little regard for Windhand's icy elegance, employing a lethal mix of psych-blasted doom metal, grindhouse punk, and sleazy garage rock that invokes names like Blue Cheer, Venom, and Electric Wizard, especially on the standout "Succubus," which grooves as hard as it spanks. ~ James Christopher Monger
