Considering their reputations as one-hit wonders, this debut LP by Jon & Robin is surprisingly strong -- not that it's earth-shattering, but if one can ignore none-too-impressive pop-soul moments such as Robin's rendition of "Hurt," or the duo's predictable version of "Hold On, I'm Coming" (and we won't delve into their embarrassing "In the Midnight Hour"), there's a fair amount of stuff to enjoy here, including the garage rock-like "Love Me Baby." The secret is to keep one's expectations low. But truth be told, the best moments on this album have been distilled down as part of Sundazed's Best of Jon & Robin -- what else is here makes it all-too-easy to peg the duo as little more than Nancy Sinatra/Lee Hazlewood wannabees, without the originality of either of the latter. ~ Bruce Eder
