Sulvia Syms was an expressive jazz-tinged cabaret singer. Her prime was in the late '50s around the time that this CD (originally recorded for Columbia) was made. Backed by orchestras mostly arranged by Ralph Burns, Syms interprets such numbers as "I've Got to Sing a Torch Song," "There's a Lull in My Life," and "I'm a Dreamer, Aren't We All." Nearly all of the songs are taken at slow tempos which suit her voice quite well. The original 12-song program (recorded in 1959) is augmented by two numbers only previously out on singles including one number ("Love, Come Take Me Again") from 1963. Cabaret collectors will want this reissue. ~ Scott Yanow
録音 : ステレオ (Studio)
