An anime-influenced fantasy story centered on a boy named Steven and the magical alien humanoids "The Crystal Gems" who protect his town, the show often includes songs produced by creator Rebecca Sugar and performed by the cast. These are stylistically varied, often tongue-in-cheek rock musical-style compositions that run the gamut from the David Bowie-esque theme song "We Are the Crystal Gems" to the Barenaked Ladies-sounding "Let Me Drive a Van Into Your Heart," to the punk rock of "Big Fat Zucchini."
