Tagged as the Glimmer Twins of post-punk, former Swell Maps leader Nikki Sudden and the Keith Richards to his Mick Jagger -- one Dave Kusworth -- delivered this awesome collection of psychedelic gems in 2000 after a long hiatus. Nikki Sudden can still seamlessly fold Bob Dylan, T. Rex, the Rolling Stones, and Big Star into the same tatty overcoat and present them as a respectable entity in Jacobites, albeit with a collection of songs that any of the above-mentioned artists would be envious of. Standout tracks include the lurching boogie of "Over & Over," the gorgeous "When Angels Die," the simply spine-chilling "What Am I Living For?," and "Puppeteer's Son." The album closes with the eloquent "Wasted," which makes this, all in all, one of Nikki Sudden's best-recorded outings in the 12 years between 1988's landmark Fortune of Fame. ~ Skip Jansen
