These two 1979 albums have aged well. They're very much of their time, of course (there's a bit of vintage post-"Shaft" wah-wah guitar), but thanks to strong songwriting, terrific production by the veteran team of Gamble and Huff, and, of course, Lou Rawls' consistently soulful singing, there's still plenty here to admire.
Highlights include the socially conscious "What's the Matter With the World" (Lou's conclusion: "It's the people in it..."), and "One Day Soon You'll Need Me," a simmering disco tune capped by one of the singer's trademark raps. "When You Get Home" is a fairly explicit lover's plea that veers in a Barry White direction.
