Photographer: Bob Gruen. One of Yoko Ono's finest solo albums, 1973's FEELING THE SPACE continues the militant political charge of its predecessor, APPROXIMATELY INFINITE UNIVERSE. From the Yoko-as-Sphinx cover art to the plainspoken, angry songs within, FEELING THE SPACE is Ono's most overtly feminist album. The lyrics are surprisingly subtle and emotionally complex, from the painful openers, "Growing Pain" and "Yellow Girl (Stand By For Life)," through more strident tunes like "Woman of Salem," "Run, Run, Run," and "Angry Young Woman." The album finally explodes into the seething, defiant trio of "She Hits Back," "Woman Power," and "Men, Men, Men." The music is powerful rock with touches of funk and free-jazz courtesy of New York rockers Elephant's Memory. The CD contains two bonus tracks, "I Learned to Stutter/Coffin Car" and "Mildred, Mildred."

「Men, Men, Men」では"J・O・H・N・N・Y"というフレーズや"milk and honey"というフレーズも。

On Feeling the Space, Yoko Ono took complete control of her product for the first time. John Lennon only played as a side musician on one cut, with the rest of the songs ably abetted by some of New York's finest studio cats. This is a feminine record dedicated to "the sisters who died in pain and sorrow for being unable to survive in a male society." The best term to describe the music here is "angry." Ono finds no love or sweetness where the male population is concerned, and it shows. Shortly after this was released, however, Ono reconciled with John, and son Sean Lennon was born. But here, her anger comes through loud and clear. The 1997 CD reissue has two previously unreleased bonus cuts: "I Learned to Stutter/Coffin Car," a combination feminist monologue/song, and "Mildred Mildred," both of which feature John Lennon on acoustic guitar. ~ James Chrispell|
