The Joined At The Hip Band: Al Anderson (vocals, acoustic & electric guitars); Reese Wynans (piano, Hammond B-3 organ, Wurlitzer piano); Glenn Worf (acoustic & electric basses); Chad Cromwell (drums).
Additional personnel includes: Gary Morse (steel guitar, dobro); Russ Pahl (lap steel); Tammy Rogers (fiddle, violin); Delbert McClinton (harmonica, background vocals); Steve Conn (accordion, organ, Clavinet); Jim Hoke (saxophone, autoharp); Terry Townsend (trumpet); Tony Harrell (piano); Scott Baggett (organ, Hammond B-3 Organ, Mellotron, percussion); RS Field (percussion); Elvis Costello, Ron Sexsmith, Bill Anderson, KK Falkner, Craig Wiseman, Sharon Rice (background vocals).
Recorded at The Sanctuary and RCA Studio B, Nashville, Tennessee.
When Al Anderson left NRBQ in 1993 after 23 years of service he had been placing ever more songs with notable Nashville artists. Bandless and no longer touring, Anderson's songwriting efforts increased, with songs recorded by Carlene Carter, The Mavericks and many others. PAY BEFORE YOU PUMP is a solid baker's dozen of hook-filled songs, played with great verve by a solidly assembled band of studio aces.
While it doesn't sound like NRBQ playing, it certainly does sound like a warmly familiar set of songs by the man known affectionately as Big Al. There's a little bit of country, a few soulful numbers, some flat out rockers (in fact, a healthy share of them this time out), and a ballad to round it all out. Through it all, Al the guitarist--named one of the top 100 guitarists in rock by Musician magazine--and Al the consummate singer tackle each number like there's no tomorrow.

商品の紹介

Q - 3 Stars (out of 5) - "...a solo album that's more straightforward than anything he did with NRBQ, more roots rock 'n' roll....The songs...are fine, fiesty, and frequently funny." Musician - "...trades bopping for rocking....not only his most confident, but his most bodacious, too. This is Al in the stompdown mode....Al's forte isn't thinking up new styles, it's playing the shit out of the ones he loves..." Musician (11/96, p.85) - "...trades bopping for rocking....not only his most confident, but his most bodacious, too.
