Available on the 2-fer FRIENDS/WILD HONEY. One of the odder pop albums of the late '60s, WILD HONEY found the Beach Boys emerging out into the sun again after the dark introspection and baroque, anti-rock orchestrations of the 1966 classic PET SOUNDS and its follow up, SMILEY SMILE. They emerged into a world that had forever changed and that no longer really needed them, which is perhaps why they felt free, on WILD HONEY, to ditch both their sun-and-surf roots and their more recent studio explorations and turn out a goofy, good-humored, faux-R&B album. Alongside the spirited "Darlin'" and a bubblegummy cover of Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made To Love Her," WILD HONEY includes such strange and wonderful moments as "I'd Love Just Once To See You," a breezy, seemingly innocuous acoustic number that leads up to the memorable plea, "I'd love just once to see you in the nude."
