While Bone Thugs-N-Harmony continued working on the sequel to 2013's The Art of War: World War III, co-founders Krayzie Bone and Bizzy Bone recorded New Waves, a full-length simply credited to Bone Thugs. The modified name is significant, as this is a departure from the group's usual sound. While their signature fast, complex raps and vocal harmonies are still present, there's nothing resembling G-funk to be heard here, and the ominousness of their earlier material is absent. Instead, they go for more of a polished sound informed by EDM and pop/R&B, even getting Far East Movement and Scott Storch to produce one track each. The group's other three members (Layzie Bone, Wish Bone, and Flesh-n-Bone) all appear on "Waves," and a wide array of guests contribute to the rest of the album, including Stephen Marley, Bun B, Yelawolf, and Korn's Jonathan Davis. New Waves was released by Entertainment One Music in June of 2017.
