RONDEAUレーベルでは珍しいアメリカの声楽作品を収録した1枚。有名な「弦楽のためのアダージョ」の作曲家サミュエル・バーバーが作曲した大規模な合唱作品「恋人たち」は、チリの詩人パブロ・ネルーダの妖艶な詩が用いられた大胆な曲。バーバーの全作品の中でも最も親密な雰囲気を宿しています。対して、バーバーの師であったトンプソンの「フロスティアーナ」が用いたロバート・フロストの詩は複雑な社会的テーマや哲学的テーマを扱ったものが多く、音楽も非常に精密です。どちらもオーケストラの壮大な響きをバックに朗々と歌われます。2016年録音。 (C)RS
