The 1997 reissue of G.I. BLUES is remixed from the original three-track master tapes, and includes extra tracks. This limited edition of the reissue includes a deluxe 28-page booklet. This is the soundtrack to Elvis' fifth movie, made in early 1960. The version of "Blue Suede Shoes" on this soundtrack was recorded in 1960 and is different from the 1956 single version. Personnel: Elvis Presley (vocals, guitar); Scotty Moore, Tiny Timbrell, Neal Matthews Jr. (guitar); Jimmie Haskell (accordion); Dudley Brooks (piano); Ray Siegel (bass); D. J. Fontana, Frank Bode, Bernie Mattinson (drums); The Jordanaires (background vocals). Reissue producers: Ernst Mikael Jorgensen, Roger Semon. Recorded at RCA Studios and Radio Recorders, Hollywood, California between April and May 1960.

Elvis was out of uniform in March 1960 and laying down vocals for his first big musical production in April. The confections that make up the soundtrack for G.I. Blues were the most trite collection of songs in his career, with the slight but affecting "Wooden Heart" the standout. Still, Presley's enthusiasm makes even the puff listenable; one can't imagine even considering listening to this music had any other singer on the planet recorded it. ~ Neal Umphred|
