Half Japanese includes: Jad Fair, Don Fleming (guitar); Howard Wuelfing. Unknown Contributor Roles: David Fair ; Jad Fair. The extremes of the first three songs on FIRE IN THE SKY offer a fairly complete picture of the range that follows in the next fifteen. The opener, "UFO Expert," launches listeners into the fury of the unknown. Then comes "Tears Stupid Tears" (written by Daniel Johnston), a sprightly and slightly darker take on romantic foibles than Jad Fair would generally write. The third number is the acoustic "Always," in which Jad ruminates on love, music, solitude, and introspection for a mesmerizing twelve minutes. Other highlights are the simple and charming "Magic Kingdom" and "This Could Be The Night." Legendary VU member Moe Tucker, who also plays drums on a few of the tracks, produced the album. One-time Velvet Monkey and Gumball leader Don Fleming was a member of the four-piece line-up that was Half Japanese at the time of this recording. John Sluggett, one of Jad's longest lasting and most sympathetic collaborators over the years, plays drums guitars and piano.
