Subtitled "A Journey of Faith Through Hymns," Hymnal mixes a few David Phelps originals with covers of traditional (such as an a cappella "Amazing Grace") and more modern CCM hymns. Dramatic, varied, and slickly produced, it sees the classical crossover artist wrangle arrangements that span strings, piano, synths, guitar, horns, organ, and penny whistle. The album was released in March 2017, within days of Phelps officially stepping down as tenor for the Gaither Vocal Band; included in the 18-track collection, which was released with Gaither Music Group, is a version of Bill and Gloria Gaither's "Something Beautiful." ~ Marcy Donelson
