商品の紹介

A fine collection of Lester Young sides cut for Verve and Aladdin, this 1946-1947 Classics offering spotlights the tenor saxophone legend in a bass-less trio featuring Buddy Rich and Nat King Cole. These eight numbers start things off with Rich in hyper-bandstand mode and Cole reeling off his typically pearly lines; the exciting mix includes both Young's patently smoky ballads ("I Cover the Waterfront") and a good share of romping swingers ("Somebody Loves Me"). The remainder is taken up by few Los Angeles dates and one Chicago session, all of which yield several gems ("Movin' With Lester," "Sunday") that feature the likes of pianists Joe Albany and Sadik Hakim, bassist Red Callender, and drummer Roy Haynes. A solid bet for Young newcomers. ~ Stephen Cook|
