Personnel: Epic Soundtracks (vocals, guitar, piano, organ, bass, tambourine, percussion, handclaps); Harry Georgeson (guitar, organ, bass, drums, background vocals); Russ Bassman (slide guitar, bass, handclaps, percussion); Kevin Junior (middle eight guitar, handclaps, background vocals); Jo Watts (violin); Emese Bodnar (cello); Jim Hunt (flute, saxophone); Duncan Mackay (trumpet, flugelhorn); Will Pepper, Clifford Chambers (bass); Henry Olsen (tubular bells); Anthony Illarde (handclaps, percussion); Maria, Ben, Neal, La La, Michael, Boonge, Leila, Nick Brown (handclaps). Recorded at Chiswick Reach, London, England in September 1995; Wake The Dead Studio, London, England in May 1993 and January 1994; and live at The Garage, London, England in October 1995. It's basically more of the same from Epic Soundtracks on his third album, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. He doesn't solely stick to the lounge-ish piano ballads that have been his trademark, occasionally jangling things up a bit. Considering his background, though, his best assets are turning out to be the surprisingly conventional ones of tuneful, affecting slow pieces. These should appeal to fans of John Cale, David Bowie, Alex Chilton, and Brian Wilson, to name a few reference points. When he tries to rock harder his voice isn't quite strong enough to carry raucous material. ~ Richie Unterberger

商品の紹介

Entertainment Weekly (5/17/96, p.62) - "...his third solo album has a more varied, muscular sound, the better to put across this collection of well-crafted songs that cross Phil Spector's dynamics with blue-eyed soul. If his voice is not always up to the task, it only adds to the album's fannish, knockabout charm." - Rating: B+
