Personnel: George Benson (vocals, guitar); Jorge Dalto (piano, Clavinet); Ronnie Foster (electric piano, mini-moog); Phil Upchurch (guitar, bass); Stanley Banks (bass); Harvey Mason (drums); Ralph MacDonald (percussion).
Recorded at Capitol Records, Hollywood, California from August-November, 1976.
This follow up to Benson's first cross-over success, BREEZIN', is Benson and producer Tommy LiPuma's effort to cement the guitarist/vocalist firmly in the public's mind as a pop artist. The disco-flavored music on this 1977 recording appropriately reflects the year in which was recorded, and while it may bring back memories for some listeners, it will sound out of date to others.
Benson gives the world his take on several pop hits, including Stevie Wonder's "Nature Boy" and Donny Hathaways's "Valdez in the Country," as well as the album's highlight, "The World is a Ghetto." The instrumental tracks are marked with Benson's famous scatting. Phil Upchurch and Harvey Mason contribute to Benson's quality back-up band.
