アラバマ・シェイクスのフロント・ウーマン、ブリタニー・ハワードが「最高のライブバンドの1つ」と絶賛するフォーク・ロック・バンド、ハレイ・フォー・ザ・リフ・ラフがニュー・アルバムを完成!ニュー・オーリンズを拠点に活動するアリンダ・リー・セガーラ率いるフォーク・ロックバンド、ハレイ・フォー・ザ・リフ・ラフがニュー・アルバム『ザ・ナヴィゲーター』を3月にリリースする事を発表!
プエルトリコにルーツをもつアリンダは17代の時にヒッチハイクと貨物列車で全米各地を放浪し、立ち寄ったニューオーリンズで音楽をやっている良き仲間に出会った。後に、育ったニューヨークを離れニュー・オーリンズに拠点をおくことを決意する。2008年にフルアルバム『It Don't Mean I Don't Love You』でデビューしコンスタントに作品を発表してきた。ハレイ・フォー・ザ・リフ・ラフは、どこかラテンのエッセンスを感じさせるフォーク/ブルーグラスをベースにR&Bや古いジャズにもアプローチしているバンドだ。2013年にはアラバマ・シェイクスのオープニング・アクトを経験し、フロント・ウーマンのブリタニー・ハワードが「最高のライブバンドの1つ」と絶賛。本作はアリンダが自身のアイデンティティーを見つけるために、南ブロンクスからダウンタウンのパンクシーンなどを旅したときの出来事からインスピレーションを得ている。彼女が敬愛する英ソウル・ミュージシャンのマイケル・キワヌカや、米アラバマ出身のソウル・ファンク・バンドのセント・ポール&ブロークン・ボーンズなどを手掛けるポール・バトラーがプロデュースを担当した。アルバムではドゥー・ワップのシンガー、カンサスを拠点に活動するパーカッショ二ストのフアン・カルロス・チャウランド、デヴェンドラ・バンハートのドラマー、グレゴリー・ロゴーブがキューバやプエルトリコのバック・ビートが演奏に参加している。いまだかつて無いほどにアリンダの歌声がソウルフルで、ラテンのリズムと身を焦がすようなフォーキーなサウンドが詰まった一枚だ。

New York-based folk/blues band Hurray for the Riff Raff present their sixth album, The Navigator, following their 2014 album Small Town Heroes. The record takes a look at frontwoman Alynda Segarra's Latin and Caribbean roots, as well as the political climate for immigrants in America. The Navigator was released by ATO Records. ~ Liam Martin|
