2008年に発表されたGOJIRAの4thアルバム『The Way of All Flesh』は、前作『From Mars To Sirius』で描かれた環境破滅の予兆から一歩進み、「死」という人間に等しく訪れる必然のテーマへとシフトした一作だ。空間的でプログレッシヴな展開と、超重量級のリフとリズムが融合する楽曲群は、知性と獰猛さを併せ持つGOJIRAならではの世界観を鮮烈に表現する。特にLamb of GodのRandy Blytheをゲストに迎えた「Adoration For None」は、咆哮が凄まじい化学反応を生み出し、アルバムにさらなる攻撃性を注入。緻密かつ圧倒的なサウンドは、ただ重いだけではない鋭いメッセージ性を放ち、バンドの存在感を決定づけた。死生観を壮大かつ暴力的に描き切った本作は、GOJIRAの進化を象徴する重要作だ。
