Other than a list of comical group credits, the best of which being the Angry Cat and Fairport Convention spinoff Fotheringay, there's little reason to believe this isn't a job of a one Jemma Price. Price had worked with E-Clypse (also listed here) on a number of occasions, mostly on tributes to Kate Bush, Tori Amos, and Joni Mitchell, before moving on to her solo album, Easy (under the name Jemima Price). The fact that she sings on every song on Sketches of Bjork: A Tribute suggests the likelihood that the project is all her doing, in a manner of speaking. Price belts out with a voice that's unnaturally like Kate Bush -- somehow more than Tori Amos does -- and yet it transfigures many of these inept interpretations into terrific, indulgent whims. She tries to mimic Bjork's natural cracks and vocal volleys inside a drill'n'bass version of "One Day," or the "Ray of Light"-like alteration of "Human Behaviour," both offending anybody who has ever owned a copy of Debut while at the same time tempting you further with a kind of B-movie zeal. Clearly, most Bjork fans will be appalled -- notice the drought of mischievous sexuality in the karaoke-powered "Venus as a Boy" -- but there's something to Price's stick-headedness in offering one cutout-bin cover collection after another that's, in its own way, awkwardly fearless. ~ Dean Carlson
