CLAPTON, PAGE, BECK is a 3 CD set with one disc devoted to each artist. Personnel includes: Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, John Mayall, The Bluesbreakers, The Yardbirds, John Paul Jones, Nicky Hopkins, Albert Lee, Clem Cattini. This curious three-CD set is a mixed bag of recordings that were made by Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page in the mid-sixties. The first CD showcases Eric Clapton and features the raw blues jam "West Coast Idea," tracks like "I'm Your Witchdoctor" from Clapton's stint as lead guitarist for John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and "Putty In Your Hands," a rocking song from Clapton's brief tenure as lead guitarist of The Yardbirds. Although the second CD is billed as the "Jimmy Page" disc, it features twelve bluesy tracks by an unidentified band and vocalist. Given that Page was one of the busiest session guitarists in England between 1964 and 1966, it's quite possible that Page is the guitarist on these recordings. The final disc showcases Jeff Beck and consists of 1965-1966 recordings that Beck made after he replaced Clapton as the lead guitarist of The Yardbirds. The songs range from hits like "Heart Full Of Soul" and "Mr. You're A Better Man Than I" to more blues-oriented tracks like "I'm Not Talking" and "Jeff's Blues" that let you hear Beck at his absolute best.
