Recording information: Protocol.
Emerging from indie-pop band Moonshake (their name taken from a Can song), the duo of Margaret Fiedler and Guy Fixsen christened their new sonic venture like the first canine shot into space, and thus whipped Laika into bold new pop territory. With songs that surf upon luscious waves of Moogs, marimbas, and a motley crew of samples (mixed with a craftsman's touch), Laika carved a neat little niche for themselves in the mid-'90s, operating out of the equally inventive Too Pure label (home to fellow space critters Mouse on Mars).
Some of Moonshake's twinkly charm surfaces in the acoustic fallout of drummer Lou Ciccotelli, but Laika's attractive sheen is mostly in Fiedler's mousey vocals, which skit amongst the aural nooks and crannies. From the chugging drums of "44 Robbers" to the mechanical fizzbeats of "If You Miss" to the spiraling fourth-world Moog funk of "Red River," SILVER APPLES OF THE MOON is a big, juicy byte taken from the a silicon tree.
録音 : ステレオ (Studio)
