Instrumental alternative rock band 65daysofstatic mixes soft, piano-dominated passages with periods of powerful rock playing on the nine tracks making up One Time for All Time. The four musicians, identified in the CD booklet as Simon, Paul, Rob, and Joe, are freed from conventional song structures by the lack of lyrics and vocals, but they are also faced with creating rock structures that can dominate the foreground as a vocalist would. They succeed by varying the dynamics of their playing considerably, setting up musical patterns with spare, delicate playing, only to fill the sound picture with furious drumming and guitar power chords for a dense, aggressive feel that may die away yet again. It's music that is more about mood than meaning, suggesting the band may have a future in film scoring. For now, they sound like what Radiohead might if Thom Yorke never bothered to go near the microphone. ~ William Ruhlmann
