This terrific disc is filled with the same three-chord (OK, "four-chord") wizardry that F.M. has been conjuring for years. And there are even more direct references to New Jersey than Springsteen has made in his entire career. While THE GASOLINE AGE sounds much like its predecessors, laden with ear-candy melodies, keyboard washes, sketchy lyrics, and hook after relentless hook, Cornog lets his voice open up with a Jagger-like recklessness on a couple of cuts. The album contains some of his strongest songwriting. Such songs as "My Little Rainbow" and "All You Little Suckers" could have been doo-wop hits in the '50s or R&'B hits in the '60's. You get the picture? Now get the disc.
