In March 2014, Kate Bush revealed to her fans that she was giving many of them literally the chance of a lifetime -- an opportunity to see her perform on-stage. Following a British concert tour in 1979, Bush famously retired from live performance, even as she grew into an international star with a profoundly loyal cult following. But to the surprise of many, Bush announced she had created a new show, an ambitious mix of music, dance, and drama, and she was going to present it with a run of 15 performances at London's Hammersmith Apollo Theatre beginning August 26, 2014. After the initial run of shows sold out in just 15 minutes, seven more were added that were also immediate sellouts. The performances were well received by critics, and greeted with adoration by Bush's fans. Two nights of the run were recorded, and Before the Dawn, a live album drawn from these performances, was slated for release in November 2016, giving Bush's fans around the world a chance to hear her triumphant comeback to the concert stage. ~ Mark Deming
