Personnel: Jonatha Brooke (acoustic guitar, mandolin); Don Carr (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, ukulele); Pauline Kim (violin); Hannah Levinson (viola); Mariel Roberts (cello); Rory Hoffman (accordion); Phil Naish (piano, Fender Rhodes piano, Hammond b-3 organ, Wurlitzer organ, keyboards); Nick D'Virgilio (drums, percussion, background vocals); Jo Lawry (background vocals). Audio Mixer: Bob Clearmountain. Recording information: Avatar, NYC; Boolie Sound; Red Door Studio; Second Story Sound; Sweetwater Studios. Editor: Nigel Dick. Photographer: Erick Anderson . After a string of eight albums on her own Bad Dog Records label, songwriter/songstress Jonatha Brooke partnered with PledgeMusic and BFD, a Sony-affiliated label, for Midnight. Hallelujah. It's a return to stand-alone original material after a companion LP to her own musical play (My Mother Has 4 Noses) and an album of tunes set to the lyrics of Woody Guthrie (The Works). The record takes on types of beliefs and devotion not necessarily religious, as evidenced in titles like "Nothing Hurts Like Love Hurts" and "Put the Gun Down," a song that begs for cooler heads. It's a passionate set with bluesy electric guitar almost as prevalent as acoustic guitar and keys. ~ Marcy Donelson
