Shimmering with sunny tropical notes and bursting with Ryan Tedder's always anthemic choruses, Oh My My captures the soul and spirit of each of the 16 cities in which it was composed. From the rooftops of Istanbul to the flamenco dancefloors of Madrid, Oh My My was recorded in hotel rooms and tour buses while the band was still touring behind 2013's hit Native. プロデューサー/作曲家としてのライアン・テダーと言えば百発百中のヒットメイカーであるが、彼が率いるこちらのバンドもコンスタントにシングルを当て、本作で4枚目のアルバムとなる。牧歌的なオープニングからアヴィーチーが好みそうなカントリーEDM、カシアスが絡んだフレンチ・ハウス、ピーター・ガブリエル参加のアナログ感満載なシンセ・プログレ、XXのロミー嬢と共作したアンビエント気分の耽美ポップ、サンティゴールドとのスタジアム・ロックなデュエットまで、さまざまなタイプの曲を披露。ここ数年のトレンド見本市みたいな内容だ。アルバムとしてのまとまりには欠けても、全体に一貫しているのがスピリチュアルなライアンのヴォーカル。〈白人ゴスペル〉とでも呼びたい、上へ上へと向かう昂揚感と浮遊感で酔わせてくれる。弱い部分をさらけ出しても、常に男気を感じさせるカリスマ性はU2のボノ似!? 良い意味でのナルシストぶりにも惹きつけられる。
