This 1981 debut album documents the band hitting the ground running on tough tracks like "Cheyenne" and "Tragedy." Hoover guitars and slinky bass lines; tight, giddy harmonies; and Michael Monroe's wet-lipped insouciance are just the beginning of the story--there's a palpable sense of debauched joy in every groove. The band also knows how to croon, albeit in a slightly tongue-in-cheek way. Their kitschy take on the Goffin/King chestnut "Walking With My Angel," a hit for Herman's Hermits two decades previously, balances reverence for pop history, sticky sweetness, and a winking leer.
