As a label, Dressed to Kill is particularly dodgy. Usually they license some nth generation live tapes by some internationally known act, or slap together compilations that have been out there in one form or another for decades. This three-disc set is the exception rather than the rule for this imprint. There are 50 cuts here from well known goth bands such as Bauhaus, the Mission UK, Lords of the New Church, Ghost Dance, Flesh for Lulu, and Joolz. There are also cuts here by Echo & the Bunnymen (a live version of "Pictures on My Wall" that actually sounds great), the Damned, a couple by Lydia Lunch in the killer studio version of her cover of "Some Velvet Morning" by Lee Hazlewood, and a duet with ex-Birthday Party member Rowland Howard, and a crummy quality live version of the Stranglers doing "Peaches." It's a mixed bag for sure, but more of the hardcore Brit goth acts are here in droves, from the Sex Gang Children and In Excelsis to Baptism and even the March Violets. One thing is certain about this set, though, it looks great and the price is certainly attractive. ~ Thom Jurek
