Sweden's Tribulation have stripped away much of the technical flash and production gloss from death metal on their debut album, THE HORROR. What's left is a hurricane of flesh-ripping heaviness not far removed from death's classic thrash roots. What they do isn't pretty, but it's highly effective. The menacing thunder at the beginning of "Seduced by the Smell of Rotten Flesh" gives way to a full-on assault of buzzing guitars and overdrive drums, and the atmosphere of dread created by the pounding "The Vampire" is potent. THE HORROR is exhausting, like running for your life from a pack of wolves.
