JUDY is a deluxe 4-CD box set including a 32-minute video featuring excerpts from her TV variety show plus an 100-page book with essays by Will Friedwald, Camille Paglia and Scott Schecter as well as interviews with Aretha Franklin and arranger Mort Lindsey. Compilation producers: Joel Dorn, Adam Dorn. Digitally remastered by Gene Paul (DB Plus Digital Services, New York, New York). Less a mere compilation than an audio documentary, the four-disc/one-video set JUDY! brings together key performances from every period of Garland's illustrious career, from rare 1929 Warner Brothers musical shorts to a final "Over The Rainbow" in 1969, the year of her death. Along the way we are treated to classic Decca tracks from the '30s & '40s--"Dear Mr. Gable/You Made Me Love You," "Over The Rainbow," "The Trolley Song"--as well as "Swanee" and The Man That Got Away" from Garland's 1951 comeback A STAR IS BORN. Later in the '50s, Garland recorded a series of superior sessions for Capitol Records with arrangers Nelson Riddle and Gordon Jenkins. Her full-steam ahead "Come Rain Or Come Shine" and thoughtfully shaded "Me And My Shadow" reveal what a sophisticated singer Garland also had become in that Sinatra-dominated decade. But "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" from the celebrated 1961 Carnegie Hall concert proves that the "American Piaf" had lost none of her ability to thrill an audience. The last two discs include previously unavailable solo and duet performances from TV's "The Judy Garland Show" which aired from 1963-1964.
