Nicely complimenting volume one's mix of '30s, '40s, and '50s sides, this second round of classic vocal jazz performances moves things up a bit with a solid set of mostly late-'50s and '60s fare. Reflecting the high standards of many of Hip-O's compilations, this 17-track mix goes from strength to strength. Whether it's the grand big band blues of Joe Williams ("Everyday I Have the Blues") or Chet Baker's pastel balladry ("My Funny Valentine"), the cuts are consistently top-notch, and that goes for such obscurities as Jackie Paris' "Skylark" as much as it does for the many gems by Dinah Washington, Mel Torme, Sarah Vaughan, Tony Bennett, and Johnny Hartman. A perfect way to get a taste of the best in vintage jazz vocals. ~ Stephen Cook
