SEASONS 4 U is a concept album of sorts, with all the songs--mostly pop and jazz standards--referencing either the weather ("Baby it's Cold Outside") or actual seasons ("Autumn Leaves"). The instrumental accompaniments range from just solo piano ("Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most," which gives Lou Rawls the opportunity to croon like a saloon singer), to synth-laden, radio ready glitzy (the Byrds' "Turn! Turn! Turn!"). Rawls is in terrific voice throughout, particularly on "Singin' in the Rain." His slow ballad take on the Beatles "Here Comes the Sun" is something of an interpretive masterstroke.
