Look up "jazz piano" in the dictionary and don't be surprised if you see the beatific visage of Art Tatum, the man who is truly the definition of that term. Tatum was the primary influence on nearly every major jazz pianist, including McCoy Tyner, Oscar Peterson and Dave Brubeck. His Capitol recordings, mostly solo works performed in 1949 plus a few trio numbers cut in '52, amply demonstrate the sensitivity and sophistication that were his trademarks. The tunes he recorded for Capitol were mostly ballads, which he redefined through his innovative harmonic sensibilities and his assured-but-fluid rhythms .
録音 : モノラル (Studio)
