ギターと歌のみによる弾き語りにこだわりをみせたソロ7作目(1971年発表)。バロック音楽との華麗なる融合によって生まれた優雅でロマンティックな英国フォーク屈指の名作。多くのソロ作を残したバート・ヤンシュの代表作に挙げられることも多い作品。プロデューサーのビル・リーダーがポータブルの録音機材をバートの自宅に持ち込んで、70年から71年にかけて時間をかけてじっくりと録音されたもの。ゲスト・ミュージシャンは一切使わず、自作とトラッドを味のあるヴォーカルと素晴らしいギターで表情豊かに聴かせてくれる。バートを初めて聴く方にもオススメの1枚。オリジナル・テープから完全リマスター音源。

Although rated very highly by many Bert Jansch fans, Rosemary Lane isn't quite as striking as his best albums of the '60s. It's more of a delivery of all the attributes listeners had come to expect of him by 1971 -- excellent acoustic guitar work, imaginative interpretations of traditional material and well-constructed originals in the same vein, and committed vocals -- than a step forward, or even sideways. It's perhaps one of his more low-key efforts, both in the sparse arrangements and the subdued tone. It's certainly a worthy effort on its own terms, even if it's largely a restatement of already visited themes. ~ Richie Unterberger|
