This record was originally released as Music for a New Society in 1982, receiving critical acclaim for its haunting compositions and dark subject matter. It would have been easy for Cale to simply reissue it and move on; instead he chose to completely rework the record, referring to the new version as M:FANS. The rewrite took place when Cale recognized that although the themes remain relevant, he now had an entirely new perspective and time frame to reflect on, a key theme being the loss of his longtime friend and fellow musician Lou Reed. The release comes packaged alongside the original album, which now includes three additional bonus tracks. ~ Liam Martin|
