It was a different era, a time when big movie musicals could break a song across the pop and publishing charts, and really, not that much different than what a video of a song gone viral does for an artist in the 21st century. This two-disc set collects 37 of Fred Astaire's big song performances for the RKO movie studios in the 1930s, including now classic songs from the likes of Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, George and Ira Gershwin, and others, plus rare alternate takes of a few numbers and a pair of bonus performances by Astaire's beloved dance and song partner Ginger Rogers. ~ Steve Leggett|
