Park South's collection of the Count Basie Orchestra adds nothing new for Basie aficionados, and also doesn't serve as much of an introduction for the curious, since it provides no liner notes for new listeners to study and learn from. A much better collection for novices would be the Ken Burns Jazz compilation, which serves as a decent single-disc overview (as good as a one-disc set can be for a man who made countless recordings) with enough information for those interested to seek out the more refined eras of the great Basie's catalog. ~ Gregory McIntosh|
