When Black Flag released MY WAR, they found a meeting point for the anarchic punk they had been making and the big hard rock they grew up listening to. The punk-metal hybrid was controversial at the time but now it looks visionary. Annihilation Time must fall into the camp that worships the later Flag oeuvre, because many of the songs on TALES OF THE ANCIENT AGE could fit very comfortably on SLIP IT IN. Beer-soaked party punk such as “About To Snap” and “Just Guzzlin’” combines restless rhythms with hairy-chested FM rock leads, perfect for shattering a glass on something or other.
