Recorded in 1938. ANAMULE DANCE is part of Rounder Records' 4-disc Jelly Roll Morton retrospective. These reissues are in their complete, uncensored form. In addition, the pitch problems which existed in the original recordings have been corrected. The second of four CDs that reissue the music (but not the verbal monologues) that pianist/composer Jelly Roll Morton recorded for the Library of Congress is, like the other volumes, filled with memorable performances that are sometimes (due to time limitations) incomplete or heard in excerpts. The most interesting selections on this disc are the lengthy "Winin' Boy Blues," Morton's playful "The Anamule Dance," "Mr. Jelly Lord" and a lengthy (and somewhat filthy) version of "Make Me a Pallet on the Floor." ~ Scott Yanow
