There is growing interest in the "Mozart Effect," a psychological phenomenon which was discovered and documented at the University of California, Irvine in the 1990's. In a study conducted by Gordon Shaw and Frances Rauscher, it was found that students who listened to excerpts of Mozart had increased--albeit fleetingly--spatial IQs. (Listening to minimalist music stunted intelligence, a victory of considerable sweetness for opponents of Philip Glass). The aftermath has been a phenomenon in and of itself: the marketing of the Mozart Effect. Regardless of whether the Effect is pop psychology myth or the newly rediscovered common sense of the ages, listening to Mozart is one of the great joys of the human experience. Featured on MOZART EFFECTS EXCITEMENT (which incidentally has one of the cutest CD covers I have seen recently--kudos to the Graphics department at Amerimusic, Inc.) are excerpts of that genius-composer's opus: 'Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,' the Piano Sonata, K 545, the aria "Dalla sua pace" from 'Don Giovanni,' and other masterpieces. Freelance and amateur musicians from the eastern United States perform these works with enthusiasm.
