After studying painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, Martin Mull detoured into music. From 1972 to 1979, he released seven albums of humorous, well-played songs that often featured stellar casts of session musicians. MULLING IT OVER is a collection of several singles for the Capricorn Records label and 20 songs from his first four albums. The arrangements and playing are superlative throughout this set. Solid musical foundations form the backbones for these humorous forays. The lyrics run the gamut from clever puns to tales of the surreal. Once he found greater success as an actor (from the smarmy host of Fernwood 2-Night to the boss on Roseanne), Mull set music aside. These are well-conceived and fully realized songs worth remembering and discovering.
