The 2009 stage musical Daddy Long Legs is based on the 1912 Jean Webster novel about a college-bound orphan with a mysterious benefactor. This 2015 off-Broadway production features the bright-voiced Megan McGinnis (Broadway's Beauty and the Beast and Les Miserables) -- associated with the part since the show's beginning -- in the lead role of Jerusha "Judy" Abbott (played by Leslie Caron in a 1955 film adaptation with Fred Astaire and songs by Johnny Mercer). She stars alongside Paul Alexander Nolan (Once, Doctor Zhivago) as Jervis Pendleton. The cast recording offers elegantly melodic music and lyrics by Paul Gordon of Broadway's Jane Eyre, with mostly piano and string ensemble accompaniment. "Like Other Girls" stands out as a memorable, folk-like tune with additional acoustic guitar. The musical's book was written by Tony-winning director John Caird (Les Miserables). ~ Marcy Donelson
