This compilation of eight previously unreleased studio cuts from Love's '68-'72 incarnation and four contemporaneous tracks from a 1970 set at the Fillmore East has much to offer. However, neophytes may get the wrong idea if they listen to this before they tackle albums like DA CAPO or FOREVER CHANGES. The strongest song is Lee's "Willow Willow," a pretty, yet muscular tune which wouldn't have sounded out of place on the band's early albums. Jay Donnelan's "I Still Wonder" is a folky gem that's probably the best of the guitarist's handful of Love writing credits. The four live tracks, featuring material from the group's 1969-'71 tenure on Blue Thumb Records, are elongated bluesy workouts.
