ブリテン(1913-1976)の「キャロルの祭典」は、1942年にウェストミンスター大聖堂聖歌隊のために作曲された作品で、第二次世界大戦時の英国で書かれた詩9編がテキストに用いられている。第1曲と最後の曲はグレゴリオ聖歌がそのまま使われ、本編ではイエスの生誕の喜びを表現。かたや、あまり演奏される機会の多くない「少年十字軍」は1941年の作品で、テキストにはベルトルト・ブレヒトのバラードが用いられている。正反対の世界を描いたブリテンの2作品を、ハノーファー少女合唱団が見事に歌唱。2014年録音。 (C)RS
