クラムの代名詞ともいえる「マクロコスモス」全4集のうち、一人のピアニストで演奏される第1、2集を収録。ドビュッシー、メシアン、武満に通底する美を持ちながら通常奏法の他にプリペアド・ピアノ、内部奏法そしてピアニストは時に歌ったり叫んだり口笛を吹いたりと、独自の神秘的世界が展開する。既に多くのピアニストによって取り上げられている名作をドイツのベテラン、マルクス・シュタンゲが冴えたリアリゼーションで聴き手を惹きつける。スタンゲはアロイス・コンタルスキーに師事し20年に渡ってシュトゥットガルト・ピアノ・デュオのメンバーを勤め、現在は内藤祐紀子&マルクス・シュタンゲ・ピアノ・デュオ、アンサンブル・フォルミンクスのメンバーとして活動している。
