マニアも唸る、Soul Jazz Recordsの新たなコンパイル盤は、「Soul Jazz Records - Coxson's Music The First Recordings Of Sir Coxsone The Downbeat 1960 - 63」!
50年代、ジャマイカ独自の音楽として黎明期を迎えたレゲエの台頭と共に、音楽の社交場としてレゲエを野外で楽しむサウンド・システムが生まれた。その時代、乱立したサウンド・システムの中で、新しいもの作り続け、頭角を現したのがコクソン・ドットで、彼が所有していたサウンド・システムがザ・ダウンビートだ。そんな中、彼は目新しい音源/レコードを求め、自身の音楽制作の為に作ったのが、名門Studio Oneとなる。
本作では、いわゆるスタワン以前、コクソン・ドットが初期(1960年～63年)に制作した珠玉のお宝音源を3枚組、46曲というヴォリュームでお贈りする永久保存版!通常1枚で収めることが多いSoul Jazzリリースのスタワン/レゲエものだが、今回は渾身のCD3枚組!!しかも解説(オリジナル英文ブックレット ? 国内盤仕様は対訳付き)はスタワンといえば、この人「Down Beat Special Studio One Album Discography」でもお馴染みのスタワン・マスター、ロブ・チャップマン!!Don Drummond、Derrick Harriot、Aubrey Adams等々!伝説的アーティストの作品がズラリ収録!
