Revisiting the environmental/field recording tableaux he explored in the budding days of Cabaret Voltaire circa 1974-76, DARKNESS AT NOON sees the intrepid Mr. Kirk forsaking the dancefloor for the cerebellum. In this case, a single 40+-minute track of Scanner-like transmission interceptions, unfamiliar pulsings, and all other manners of odd flickerings from the ebony ether. Juxtaposing news broadcasts on Kosovo, soundbytes that detail the effects of nuclear warfare on humans, and various other anonymous broadcast flotsam, Kirk paints a chilling picture of a world on the sonic edge, with himself the Pied Piper of electronica. Those wishing for a Sandoz-ian exercise in boombox psychedelics need to look elsewhere--but those of you enamored of the darkside of records such as Bernd Friedmann's LEISURE ZONES are encouraged to immerse yourselves in Kirk's chamber of audio paranoia.
