It isn't often that jazz music manages to be both radically experimental and accessible. The Lounge Lizards pull off this difficult synthesis with far-out, elegant, skewed, and groovy aplomb. Frontman and composer John Lurie leads the line-up of two saxophones, trumpet, bass clarinet, cello, bass, drums, piano, and auxiliary percussion through shimmering explorations of texture and musical possibility.
Atmosphere is paramount in the Lizards' music, and the dark jungle of "The Birds Near Her House," the soaring dance pulse of the title track, the warped midway of "John Zorn's S&M Circus," and the fragmented bad-dream-sequence of "Scary Children" evoke surging, shifting mind-movies. A superior example of an all-too-rare creative and singular musical vision, QUEEN OF ALL EARS is beautiful, challenging music of the highest order.
録音 : ステレオ (Studio)
